IDEA Voices of Peace

In September 2024, ECCO Foundation entered classrooms and school halls across Mataram with a message: that peace is something young people can actively build not just hope for. Adapted from the Tunas Bineka format, IDEA Voices of Peace was a youth-led peacebuilding program that reached 200 students from 10 senior high schools across the city, creating a safe and inclusive space for them to encounter difference, build trust, and collaborate across school boundaries.

Through two carefully designed phases first school visits focused on teamwork and inclusive dialogue, then a four-day inter-school gathering where 50 students shared, created, and performed together the program harnessed the power of art as a language for peace. The result: an original song and music video produced by the students themselves, now published on ECCO Foundation's YouTube channel as a testament to what young people can create when given the right space

Program Highlights:

  • 200 students engaged from 10 senior high schools in Mataram
  • Two-phase program: school visits with participatory activities, followed by a 4-day inter-school gathering of 50 students
  • Original song and music video produced and published on ECCO Foundation's YouTube channel
  • Proved the power of arts and dialogue as instruments of peace among diverse youth communities
